Basic Snort Rule Development - One day intensive workshop

Significant effort will be spent teaching students about each parameter with IPv4 and IPv6 protocols. Students will then be introduced how to craft snort rules with a focus on detection mis-configurations and malicious activity on organizational networks.

Jason Cuneo is the Chief Cyber Scientist for PeopleTec in Huntsville, Alabama and has successfully supported numerous customers across the Department of Defense (DoD) including the Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC), U. S. Army Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC), Software Engineering Directorate (SED), Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC), and Program Executive Office Missiles and Space (PEO MS). Mr. Cuneo has led numerous teams focused on cybersecurity solutions and has expertise in secure computing, vulnerability assessment methodologies, network defense and defensive cyber operations, cyber training and exercises, incident handling and response, and application of blockchain technologies. Mr. Cuneo’s formal education includes a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy, and is currently a PhD candidate in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Auburn University. Mr. Cuneo holds multiple professional certifications including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Security Analyst (E|CSA), Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH), Computer Network Defense Architect (C|NDA), CompTIA Cloud+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, and numerous Microsoft certifications.
